Build Reference helps you find provisions of the National Construction Code (NCC). It is a reference tool, not advice.
Check the published NCC
The NCC text here comes from the Australian Building Codes Board's published packages (NCC 2022, and NCC 2025 Volume One). It is not the authorised version and can contain errors, including errors made in converting it. Before you rely on a provision, check it on NCC Online (each provision links there), together with any state or territory variation and the edition adopted where your building is.
Not professional advice
Nothing on this site is legal, building surveying, engineering or fire safety advice, or a finding that any building, design or product complies. Compliance turns on the facts of each case, and on the judgement of the relevant building surveyor or authority.
The AI assist
Signed-in accounts can ask an AI model (Claude, made by Anthropic) questions. Its answers are generated from the provisions the site found, and can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Check every requirement against the provision it cites. Where an answer draws on the Building Act 1993 (Vic) or the Building Regulations 2018 (Vic), it summarises them in its own words: read the authorised versions on legislation.vic.gov.au.
Using the site
Use the site as a person would: automated bulk downloading isn't permitted, and the site limits how fast any one address can make requests. Accounts are personal: keep your password to yourself.

The site is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, no warranty is given that it is accurate, complete or available, and no liability is accepted for loss arising from its use. Nothing in these terms excludes a right you have under the Australian Consumer Law that can't be excluded.

Figures from the NCC are not reproduced here (their licence differs): each provision links to NCC Online instead.
The Building Act 1993 and the Building Regulations 2018 are © State of Victoria. They are not reproduced on this site: the AI assist summarises them, and links go to their authorised versions on legislation.vic.gov.au.
